How Changing Your Diet Can Reduce Symptoms Of Rosacea For You

Rosacea is still very much a mystery in the medical community.  No one has been able to determine the reason people get it or how to prevent it.  People have tried laser treatment and products like antibiotics and ointments to supress the symptoms, with varying success.  So what exactly is known about rosacea?  How can a change in diet help?

The Facts

Here’s what medical experts have determined about rosacea.  It shares many symptoms with acne.  Both conditions result in facial bumps and redness.  Some types of rosacea, such as ocular, also cause itchy, watery eyes and the appearance of tiny blood vessels on the face.  This is due to a change in the person’s vascular system.

Unfortunately, rosacea can not be treated using the same methods as acne.  In fact, scientists are still searching for a cure.  In the meantime, there are ways to control symptoms with a healthier lifestyle.  Here are the things you’ll want to eat—and the things you need to avoid:

To Do List

You’ll want to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.  Rice, oats, wheat, and other products that are rich in fiber and whole grain are also good for you.  What should you drink?  Primarily water.  Beyond that, fruit juice and vegetable juice are acceptable.  Along with a good diet, we recommend starting a multivitamin regimen and taking antioxidants.

Not to Do List

Vegetables should be eaten raw or steamed, not fried.  In other words, a baked potato will do much better in helping you than French fries or potato chips.  Mushrooms should be standalone as opposed to an ingredient on a greasy pizza with all the toppings.  Fried foods are a big no-no.  The intake of milk, ice cream, cheese, and other dairy products will have to be reduced or eliminated.  You’ll also have to watch that types of meat you eat.  Pork and beef are bad choices.  Chicken is fine as long as you stay away from the skin.  The same applies to turkey.  Spicy foods should be avoided.  Another problem area are junk foods like chips, cakes, candy bars, cookies, soft drinks, and other products with high salt or sugar content.  Besides milk and soft drinks, you also need to not drink coffee or other stimulants.

Eating healthier, more natural foods may sound like a real radical (not to mention bland) solution to those of you who love grabbing a couple of sausage, egg, and cheese biscuits in the morning.  But rest assured, if you’ll give it a chance, you’ll be surprised at how quickly you can adapt.
